Net metering & export credits
Distributed Generation (inflow/outflow) — no 1:1 for new customers. Outflow (exported) solar is credited at the power-supply energy charge + PSCR only (e.g., $0.14261/kWh summer on-peak on the standard TOU rate, Jan 2025), while grid inflow is billed at full retail; legacy net metering customers were grandfathered ~10 years.
Electricity rates
MI residential average ~19¢/kWh (EIA 2024).
What this means for solar
- TOU on-peak is 3–7 pm weekdays — daytime self-consumption is the highest-value kWh.
- Batteries store solar for evening use instead of exporting at the lower supply-only credit.
