Net metering & export credits
Full-retail 1:1 net metering (MD & DC). Maryland: full-retail credits with an annual true-up. DC: exports credited at full retail and roll over monthly, with unused credits paid out at year-end at the generation rate (~$0.088/kWh). DC SRECs trade at $300–400 each — the highest-value SREC market in the US.
Electricity rates
MD residential average ~17¢/kWh (EIA 2024); DC slightly higher.
What this means for solar
- DC’s SREC market drives 5–7 year paybacks for solar in the District.
- Pepco also serves part of Delaware under Delaware net metering rules.
